NZ Steel to receive up to $140m to recycle scrap steel using electricity instead of coal

NZ Steel plans to install an electric arc furnace – halving its coal use – at its Glenbrook plant in south Auckland, reducing its emissions by up to 45%. The government is providing funding for the project, which is expected to save the company money in the long term.
