Abbey Caves tragedy: School had risk assessment plan for ‘flood prone’ network

A Year 11 student's body has been found after he went missing while exploring a fl ood-prone caving network at Whangārei Boys' High School. The school had completed a Risk Assessment for the trip and noted that the caves were prone to flooding in heavy rain. Fourteen students and two adults were rescued after being trapped in the caves for several hours. The school is conducting a full and comprehensive investigation into the trip.
