Denmark to spend billions on modernising defence forces and ramping up NATO commitment

A Danish Defense ministry has announced that it will invest 38 billion kroner (€5.09 billion) in modernizing its armed forces over the next 10 years, in an effort to restore the foundations of defense before building on them. This announcement comes in the wake of an audit of the armed forces intended to lay the ground for new defense budget negotiations, which revealed the extent of wear and tear on equipment and barracks as well as severe IT challenges. After announcing an increase in military spending in 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Denmark said it planned to spend 2% of its GDP on defense by 2030, meeting the target set by NATO for all member states.
