Ken Leishman, a dashing and delightful Winnipeg salesman, masterminded Canada's 1966 gold heist, the country's biggest until April theft in Toronto. The heist was successful, and Leishman and his four accomplices got away with 12 gold bars (worth $383,000 at the time) at the Winnipeg airport. Leishman's plan was masterfully executed, and he got away with the crime without hurting anyone. After getting out of prison and moving to Red Lake with his wife, Leishman resumed his career as a bush pilot and medical transporter. In 1979, while transporting a patient and assistant to Thunder Bay, his plane went down in northern Ontario, and his body was never found. The gold he stole was never recovered.
