In a lawsuit that blames Autopilot, Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system, for a fatal crash in 2018, a California judge has tentative ruled that Tesla CEO Elon Musk will likely be ordered to testify under oath. Musk is being questioned about a 2016 statement cited by plaintiffs in which he allegedly said: “A Model S and Model X, at this point, can drive autonomously with greater safety than a person. Right now.” Tesla’s lawyers have opposed the request in court filings, arguing that Musk can’t recall the details of statements plaintiffs want to question him on. If approved, this would be the first time a CEO has been deposed in a U.S. court over a product liability case.
