The Comoros president, Azali Assoumani, has said that the island nation does not want to receive any of the migrants that the French government plans to remove from Mayotte's shantytowns. The operation, called "Wuambushu" (takeover, in Moroccan), is set to begin soon and some 1,800 police and gendarmes are already stationed in Mayotte. Many African and Comorian migrants die every year trying to reach Mayotte illegally, on board small overloaded fishing boats.
