The National Trust has moved three rangers into a Lifeboat House on a remote shingle spit in order to protect a colony of one of the UK's rarest seabirds, the little tern. The terns are afforded the utmost protection from disturbance and the UK has around 1,300 pairs of little terns. Visitors are urged to follow signage and always watch their step as birds do not obey fence lines.
