Junior doctors ‘plan strike action for every upcoming bank holiday’

The British Medical Association is planning to cause chaos for the next six weeks by striking after a series of bank holidays. Thousands of medics from the British Medical Association will walk out for four days this week in a dispute over pay. The decision to strike after a double Easter Bank Holiday has caused alarm among health leaders, who say they have fewer senior staff to cover shifts due to pre-booked holidays and childcare commitments. Basic patient safety "will be compromised" during the strikes, leaders warned on Monday, as they encouraged the public not to engage in "risky behaviour" to prevent adding extra pressure on the NHS. Talks between junior doctors and Steve Barclay, the Health Secretary, remain deadlocked, with the BMA demanding a 35 per cent pay increase to bring their salaries back to 2008 levels.
