King Charles III backs research into UK monarchy’s slavery ties

The British monarchy has expressed its support for research into the UK's role in slavery, a first in the United Kingdom. The research is being conducted by a historian from the University of Manchester and is supported by Historic Royal Palaces. The Royal Family is also supporting the research through access to the Royal Collection and the Royal Archives. There has been growing criticism in the United Kingdom and its former colonies over the monarchy's involvement in the country's imperialist, slave-owning and colonialist past. In November, before his accession to the throne, King Charles Iii said that his country shouldn't hide its role in the slave trade.
