‘History will be Sorted, Wait for NEP 2020’: NCERT Chief Amid Uproar on Key Deletions in School Books

NCERT chief, Dinesh Prasad Saklani, firmly defends the deletion of certain references to certain topics from school history textbooks, citing the need to reduce the burden on students as a reason. The removal of specific references to events such as the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi is defended as necessary to reduce the number of questions that students may ask. New textbooks for classes 3-12 are currently in the process of being written and will take into account the new National Education Policy, which addresses the need for rootedness in Indian culture and experiential learning.
