German scientists have found that giving children more time to eat their dinner, on average, sees them consume an extra seven portions of fruit and vegetable, compared to if they were restrained to a 20-minute dinner time. This extra time is typically granted by extending the mealtime by 50% on average. The study showed that children ate more vegetables and fruit overall, too, and were less likely to snack between meals when given more time to eat.
