The Scottish wildcat is one of the few wild members of the cat family to survive in Britain, and is critically endangered. A new conservation project, Saving Wildcats, has been approved to release captive-bred Scottish wildcats into the wild in order to save the species from extinction. The first release is planned for summer 2023 in the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands. The project is supported by RZSS, NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland, and the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
