In a first, EPA seeks emergency action to curb a plant’s cancer risk

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has filed a motion for preliminary injunction to require a plant in southeast Louisiana to reduce its cancer-causing emissions. The motion comes after the government sued the plant in late February, alleging that it had failed to curb its cancer-causing pollution. If approved by the judge, the motion could provide nearby communities with immediate but temporary relief while the larger case is pending.
