Nepal is due to graduate from its current status, as one of the world's least Developed Countries, in 2026. Nepali, an economist in the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Nepal, has seen the economic progress made in the country, where he was born and raised. There are currently 46 so-called Least Developed Countries (LDCs), a United Nations designation. Nepal has made significant strides in reducing poverty and hunger, achieving gender parity in school enrolment, and reducing under-five mortality. The graduation is likely to keep Nepal's economy stable. However, the challenges of transitioning include the loss of LDC-specific benefits and unfavorable arrangements. The UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-2027) has adopted LDC graduation and inclusive economic transformation as one of the central, cross-cutting pillars to guide the activities of the entire UN system in the country.
