Ray Mears: Some British rivers so polluted I wouldn’t canoe on them

Ray Mears, an experienced outdoorsman, has said that some of Britain's rivers are so heavily polluted that he would not canoe on them. The pollution comes from human waste and other waste products that are discharged into the rivers. The water companies are supposed to reduce the level of phosphorus in the wastewater, but this has not always been the case. The new environment agenda for England that was introduced last year includes a target to improve water quality.
