Care homes have expressed anger and frustration with Health Secretary Matt Hancock after it was revealed he rejected the advice of the Chief Medical Officer to test all residents for Covid. The Telegraph investigation found that the guidance Mr Hancock eventually introduced, which made testing mandatory for those coming in from the community, was introduced on August 14 - almost a month after the Chief Medical Officer had told him about the benefits of testing. Between April 17 and August 13, 2020, a total of 17,678 people died of Covid in care homes in England.
