Sierra Leone: Freetown residents build homes on the sea

Residents of Freetown, Sierra Leone are building homes on land "reclaimed" from the sea in a process known as "banking." The homes are unauthorised and face many risks, including the risk of fire and flooding. The population in the city has increased due to the war, and the city is expected to face increased sea levels due to climate change. Mayor Koroma believes that the solution to this problem is to create more economically attractive destinations outside of the city.
