How to Start a Blog (and Make Money) in 6 Steps: Easy Beginner’s Guide

The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Start a Blog and Make Money Blogging in 2023 (New Bloggers)
How to Become a Blogger in 5 Simple Steps

1. Choose your blog name and get your blog hosting(Pick Your Blog Name and Niche).
2. Get Your Blog Online (Web Hosting).
3. Design Your Blog with a Free WordPress Theme.
4. Write Your First Blog Post(SEO Like).
5. Promote Your Blog to Get Readers and Traffic
6. Make Money from Your Blog

While there are other blogging platforms like Blogger.com and Tumblr.com, almost all serious bloggers use a self-hosted Wordpress site for its creative freedom and flexibility.

The Minimalists uses WordPress because it gives us more control over the look and feel of our blog, more creative control than any other platform. Oh, and WordPress itself is free!

1. Choose your blog name and get your blog hosting(Pick Your Blog Name and Niche).

First, it’s time to pick a name and niche for your new blog.

Your blog name is what readers will see first (like yourblog.com), so ideally it should represent the general topics you'll be writing about, or it could be your own name, company name, or a clever combination of words. . , in another way.

Your blog's niche is the general subject area that you will focus your content on. Examples are blog topics like travel, food, fashion, lifestyle, technology and others. Incorporate a word or two into your blog name that makes it clear what your content is about (e.g. fashionbyjane.com or Hikingwithryan.com), it will be very useful for future readers of your blog.

2. Get Your Blog Online (Web Hosting)

The second step in starting a blog is to get it online. A web hosting company will do that for you. In this step, you will select the blogging platform and web hosting plan that you will use to get your blog online.
The blogging platform and web hosting combo that I personally use (and that most other bloggers use) is a WordPress blog hosted by Bluehost.

WordPress is a free publishing platform that has been around since 2003 and now powers over 60% of all blogs on the web.Bluehost is one of the most established and trusted companies in the blog hosting industry. We use this combination to start your blog. Now let's set up your hosting.

3.Design Your Blog with a Free WordPress Theme

Now that we’ve gotten through the crucial setup phase of starting a blog, it’s time to have a little more fun.

Designing your WordPress blog is when you might start to feel a little friction with this process though (if you’ve never worked on a blog before), but I promise this won’t get too technical.

Plus… the last thing I want is for the very minor technical side of starting a blog to derail your progress today. That’s why, in my free course How to Build a Blog in 7 Days, I break this technical setup process down into an even more actionable, step-by-step checklist for you.

"If you want to start a blog and make money as a blogger, WordPress is the best blogging platform"
Let’s cover some basic terminology, so you understand why WordPress is the right platform (also known as a Content Management System or CMS) to run your blog on.

4. Write Your First Blog Post

You don’t read a blog because it looks nice or because they publish frequently. (Although those both help).

Read the blog because you care about what it says. Creating quality content will attract readers and ultimately help you make money from blogging.

Before we get too far with your blog business plan, content planning, and writing your first blog post, you need to answer one simple question...why?

Why do you care for the topic you’re blogging about?
Why should other people listen to what you’re saying?
Why is this a blogging topic you can add real value to?

To answer these questions, I like to think of a blog like any other business and re-emphasize the importance of picking a clear niche.

5. Promote Your Blog to Get Readers and Traffic

6. Make Money from Your Blog

I share this not to brag, but so that you’ll understand I know what I’m talking about when it comes to starting a blog and making serious income with it. Moreover, I’ll be the first to tell you that these kinds of income figures aren’t typical with blogging—and that it’s taken me 6+ years to reach this point in my blog business.

There's a reason why the section on generating money from your blog is at the conclusion of our blog-starting tutorial. You can't expect to generate money right immediately unless you already have a large following somewhere—monetization should not be your primary emphasis right now, but rather something to strive for.

Furthermore, how you monetise your site will change based on the sort of blog you have. A lifestyle blog, for example, will use different revenue tactics than a personal blog, parenting blog, culinary blog, or travel blog.

Even so, it's a good idea to have a plan for how you want to earn money blogging as you go on this new adventure, especially if you favour passive income. Several of these monetization methods

Freelancing (Selling Your Services)
Affiliate Programs
Sponsored Blog Content
Online Courses
Traditional Blog Advertisements (Ad Networks)
Podcast Sponsorships
Physical Products (eCommerce) and Software Tools
Business Partnerships
