Police performance effectiveness rose to 63.8% according to national survey

The perception of effectiveness of the performance of the Municipal Preventive Police rose from 58.1 to 63.8%.

In the capital, the perception of security rose four percentage points in the last quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter, according to the National Public Security Survey (ENSU).

The Secretary of Municipal Public Security, Juan Luis Ferrusca, pointed out that with this measurement the capital rises from 22nd to 16th place, among 92 urban areas evaluated in terms of security Perception.

In the survey, the people interviewed referred to the increase in the perception of security at bank ATMs, at work, parks, markets, shopping centers and schools, explained the secretary.

The results for the period July to September reflected an increase of 7.3% compared to the same quarter of 2022, while the perception of effectiveness of the performance of the Municipal Preventive Police rose from 58.1 to 63.8%.

“We will continue working with daily actions for the benefit of citizens to continue together building the Querétaro we want,” Secretary Juan Luis Ferrusca.

Also in the second quarter of 2023, the perception of security in the inhabitants of the capital municipality increased 4.2%, compared to the first quarter, according to ENSU results.

In this second quarter of the year, the percentage of the population that considers the performance of the municipal preventive police to be effective increased, going from 62.5 to 65.5%. And the number of residents who identify their police as an authority that inspires confidence rose from 63.1 to 68.8%.

According to the survey published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 61.4% of the population aged 18 and over, residing in 75 cities in the country, considered that it is unsafe to live in their city.

The above does not represent a significant change in relation to the percentage registered in June 2023, which was 62.3%. But it represents a smaller statistically significant change from September 2022, which was 64.4%.

In this edition, 11 cities and districts had statistically significant changes compared to June 2023: six presented reductions and five, increases. In September 2023, 67.4% of women and 54.1% of men considered living in their city unsafe.

The cities with the highest percentage of people aged 18 years and older who considered that living in their city is unsafe were: Fresnillo, with 95.4%; Ciudad Obregón, with 92.3%; Zacatecas, with 92.1%; Uruapan, with 91.5%; Naucalpan de Juárez, with 87.3%; and Toluca de Lerdo with 86.2%.

While the cities where the perception of insecurity was lower were: Benito Juárez, with 15.8%; Piedras Negras, with 19.7%; San Pedro Garza García, with 20.8%; Cuajimalpa de Morelos, with 21.4%; Puerto Vallarta, with 22.5% and Los Mochis, with 24.1%.

The ENSU corresponding to the third quarter of 2023 was carried out from August 28 to September 15, 2023, with the objective of generating information regarding social perception of public safety in the country’s cities.
