To celebrate the Day of the Dead 2023 in Mérida, Yucatán, the Festival de las Ánimas will open the doors to the “other world” from October 24.
The Festival of the Souls will begin with a photographic exhibition named in Yucatec Mayan “U K’iinil Finados” which means “The Day of the Dead”, and later with a guided tour of the cemetery.
From October 24 to November 2, the Festival de las Ánimas will have various activities throughout Mérida.

After the inauguration on October 24, a tour of the cemetery will be held again on October 25, which will be recurring on all days of the event.
Cyclists will be able to tour the cemetery on their bikes with the ride of the souls with the cycle tours at 8:00 p.m., starting in the Plaza Grande.
In addition, Broadway will arrive in Yucatán with a musical show based on the Disney film “Coco” on October 26 at 8:00 p.m. on the Esplanade of the San Roque market.
Producers from Mérida will sell honey products and their derivatives on October 28 from 10:00 a.m. in Plaza Grande.
While the ancient Mayan ball game “Pok ta pok” will not be left behind, as it can be enjoyed the same day at 7:30 p.m. on Paseo de Montejo x 47, where two teams of warriors will face each other characterized as “death.”
The Catrinas Parade will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Paseo de Montejo towards El Remate to end on Catrinas Night where there will be artistic dances.
The monumental altar will be inaugurated on October 30 at 10:00 a.m. in the Plaza Grande, with information in Spanish, Mayan and English.
In addition, there will be an adoption and care event for our pets with altars and a costume contest called “Pixán Pee’k” on October 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Alemán Colony Park.
On October 31 at 8:00 p.m. there will be a narration of Mayan legends in the Parque de los Reyes.
While on November 1 and 2, the Day of the Dead will be celebrated with the delivery of offerings at the monumental altar for any citizen who does not have one.
