IGA SWIATEK “COULD RETIRE TOMORROW AND BE A NO-BRAINER HALL OF FAMER” ACCORDING TO TENNIS JOURNALIST JON WERTHEIM

Tennis Journalist Jon Wertheim has said that Iga Swiatek could retire tomorrow and still be worthy of the sport’s Hall of Fame.

At 22 years old, Swiatek has already achieved an incredible amount of success in her career. She has four Grand Slam titles to her name, having won the French Open in 2020, 2022, and 2023 while having also claimed the title at the 2022 US Open.

The Polish player also spent 75 weeks as World No. 1 between April 4, 2022, and September 10, 2023 – which is the tenth-longest amount of time in WTA Ranking history.

Wertheim describes Swiatek as “beyond dispute”

Swiatek’s most recent victory came at the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing. The World No. 2 defeated Liudmila Samsonova in the final 6-2, 6-2 after ousting Caroline Garcia and Coco Gauff along the way.

In a Q&A session held yesterday, Wednesday, October 11, Wertheim praised Swiatek and said that if she were to leave the sport now, she would still be considered among some of the greatest players in tennis history.

“The extraordinary player is beyond dispute. She could retire tomorrow, at age 22, and be a no-brainer Hall of Famer. She is a wonderful athlete. She is far grittier than credited,” he said.

Swiatek’s next appearance will be at the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, which will take place from October 29 – November 5.
