Mercedes make fun of Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes’ social media admins were in good form on Tuesday, with the team having taken aim at themselves through a comical tweet.

In preparation for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, Mercedes tweeted an image of them supposedly travelling to Barcelona, whilst Lewis Hamilton’s car was seen outside the plane window.

The image of Hamilton’s car was from Free Practice 3 at the Monaco Grand Prix, where his car was lifted high into the air by a crane after the Briton crashed at Mirabeau.

Whilst cars being lifted by cranes is normal at the Circuit de Monaco, Hamilton’s car did appear to be lifted considerably higher than usual, whilst it also swung perilously close to a block of apartments.

Mercedes’ admin saw this as too good an opportunity to miss, with Hamilton’s W14 having now hilariously reached new heights.

“Next stop, Barcelona,” wrote Mercedes on Twitter, with the image of Hamilton’s car hanging outside a place window.

Mercedes head to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend looking for answers, as to whether their new concept is a step forward.

Due to how unique the Monaco GP is, the Silver Arrows were unable to really discover anything last weekend, perhaps putting more pressure on this weekend.

Barcelona is a much more conventional circuit and is typically where most teams will introduce several upgrades, given that gathering data is significantly easier in Spain than it is elsewhere.

It’s partly for this reason why pre-season testing used to be held at the legendary venue, which has seen its controversial chicane in the final sector removed.

Hamilton has already expressed his delight at the nasty chicane being removed, with the circuit’s old layout making a return.

The seven-time World Champion will be looking to build on from his fourth-place finish in Monaco, with him having shown solid pace throughout the weekend.

George Russell on the other hand, will be keen to make up for his error at Mirabeau, where he threw away a likely rostrum.

The 25-year-old was behind Hamilton in every session during the Monaco GP, something he’ll presumably be wanting to avoid for a second consecutive weekend.
