7-Eleven celebrates 96th birthday with free slurpees in US and Canada

Celebrate 7-Eleven Day with free Slurpees! VIP customers get 2 extra. Enjoy 34 flavors & new ones too. Limited time offer on July 7th.

As part of its loyalty program, 7-Eleven is giving VIP customers who have earned the maximum number of points on the brand’s app two more free slurpees.

On its 96th birthday, on July 7, 2023, 7-Eleven, a convenience shop business established in Texas, will give away free slurpees in New Delhi. It’s also celebrated as “7-Eleven Day” or “Slurpee Day.” As part of its loyalty program, the chain is giving VIP customers who have accrued a maximum number of points on the brand’s app two more free slurpees.

Free 12-ounce (355 ml) slurpees of any flavor are given out between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on this day every year. Small ice crystals are used to create a partially frozen drink that comes in 34 different flavors across the United States, including the limited-edition “What the Fanta” flavor sold only on Slurpee Day.

This year, in honor of Slurpee Day, 7-Eleven is debuting four new flavors—sprite lymonade legacy, summery citrus, fanta dragon fruit zero sugar, and hibiscus lemonade—that will be available for one day only.

In addition to providing free slurpees, the chain also provides specials on other popular items, such as hot dogs and pizza slices, for only $1.

Only the American and Canadian locations of the company will participate in this promotion because that is how dates are written in the United States and Canada (7 July / 11).

According to a source from 7-Eleven India, this is why the convenience store business celebrates Eastern countries like India on November 7 (7/11), since they use the British manner of writing dates (date, then month).

This tradition was launched in 2002 by 7-Eleven for their 75th anniversary celebration and has continued every year since, with the exception of 2020, when it was canceled because to the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by the media.

In 1959, a Kansas Dairy Queen business accidentally created the Slurpee when it began freezing its soda to prevent it from spoiling. The semi-frozen pop became a hit, and customers started specifically asking for it. The slurping sound heard when drinking it inspired the alternative moniker “Icee” before the drink eventually became known as a “slurpee.”

Slurpees are now available in more than 300 flavors around the world. Coco-cola and wild cherry are the two most often consumed flavors in the United States.

7-Eleven is a global chain that began in an icehouse in Dallas, Texas in 1927 and has now expanded to more than 83,000 locations in 19 countries. The company has a history of innovation, including being the first to sell coffee in disposable cups and the first to offer soda fountains where customers could help themselves. According to the company’s website, the convenience store chain is now owned in its entirety by Seven and I Holdings Co. Ltd. of Japan.

Reliance Retail runs the Japanese-owned, American-headquartered 7-Eleven chain in India. 7-Eleven, based in Texas, had signed a deal with Kishore Biyani’s Future Group to enter the Indian market, however the two companies amicably severed their ties in 2021. Read on to find out more. Forty 7-Elevens may be found in the country as of July 2023, with 38 located in Mumbai and 2 in Pune.
