African Games: Four Nigerian athletes blaze into 100m finals


 At the ongoing 2023 African Games in Ghana, Nigerian athletes have once again shown their mettle; on Monday, four sprinters confirmed their places in the 100-meter finals.
Ekanem showed his tenacity in the first men's 100-meter semi-final by finishing in 10.37 seconds to guarantee a position in the final with Aggerh Barnabas of Ghana, who finished in 10.42 seconds, according to Premium Times.

Before Usheoritse Itsekiri was named the champion, the third semifinal was a fierce competition with several callbacks. Itsekiri qualified for the final with an amazing time of 10.29 seconds, demonstrating exceptional control in the face of a -2.1 m/s headwind.

Two runners from host Ghana also made it to the men's 100-meter final. With the fastest time of 10.23 seconds, Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon took the lead from the group.

Nigerian athletes Justina Eyakpobeyan and Olajide Olayinka qualified for the final of the women's 100m. In the last 20 meters, Olayinka overtook Natacha Akamabi of Congo, while Eyakpobeyan won her heat, finishing in 11.61 seconds.

Nigerian athletes were outstanding in various track events besides the 100m. Wisdom Musa finished in 14.35 seconds to qualify for the men's 110-meter hurdles final.

In the women's 400 meters, Esther Elo Joseph made headlines by recording a personal best time of 51.81 seconds, which was the quickest time in all heats. With a timing of 53.17 seconds, Esther Okon also made it into the women's 400-meter semi-finals.

With a casual season-opening time of 45.89 seconds, men's 400-meter leader Chidi Okezie led the field into the semi-finals, followed by Dubem Nwachukwu (46.29 seconds) and Sikiru Adeyemi (46.72 seconds).

 At the 2023 African Games, Team Nigeria athletes have made a powerful statement. The finals on Tuesday look to be thrilling, with Nigerians predicted to contend for gold in a number of events.
