 ✖️Natural family planning methods

Abstinence during the Fertile Phase.

🔴 To be able to use this method, you need to learn about your Cycle and know which period you're fertile and when you are not.

The fertile phase of the menstrual cycle can be predicted in various ways.

The calendar method or the rhythm method.

🔴 This depends upon the avoidance of sexual intercourse around ovulation.

🔴 In a 28-day cycle, ovulation normally occurs on the 14th day of the cycle, but may occur anytime between the 12th and 16th day. ( Fertile window is usually 3 to 5 days before ovulation and 1 day post on the average . Fertile window can last for an average of 7 days )

🔴 Sperm released into the vagina can survive for about 5 days during which period it can make its way towards the egg released for pregnancy to occur. In some cases sperm can survive for as long as 7 days, prolonging the fertile window.

🔴 The released egg can live for 12 to 24 hours.

🔴 Safe period is therefore calculated from the first day of the menstrual period until the 10th day of the cycle and from the 18th to the 28th day.

🔴 You can also calculate when its risky for you to have sex . This is about 3 to 5 days before ovulation to 1 to 2 days after ovulation. In a 35-day menstrual cycle, ovulation will occur on the 21st day, that is 14 days before your next period, so that the risk period is from day 18 to day 24. You should keep in mind some sperm can survive for 7 days.

calendar method.

🔴 The fertile period is determined by subtracting 18 days from the shortest cycle and 10 days from the longest cycle which gives the first and the last day of fertile period, respectively. This is useful if your cycle length differs.

🔴 This is not a reliable method and pregnancy rates are high.

🔴 Failure results from irregular ovulation or from irregular menstrual cycles.

🔴 Some couples prefer this method on religious grounds or because they find other methods unacceptable.

🔴 Ovulation can be predicted using

 the mucus method.

🔴 During ovulation ( fertile window), cervical mucus increases in quantity and becomes progressively more slippery and elastic until a peak is reached.

🔴 Thereafter, the mucus becomes thicker, scanty and dry under the influence of

progesterone until the onset of menses.

🔴 Sex is considerable safe during the ‘dry days’ immediately after the menses

until mucus is detected.

🔴 Once mucus changes are noted, abstinence is necessary until the fourth day after the ‘peak day’

temperature method.

🔴 Progesterone causes an increase in body temperature. If you record your body temperature daily in the morning,  you will notice an increase in body temperature around the period of ovulation.

🔴 The temperature change indicates the time of ovulation. Avoidance of intercourse during the fertile days can prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

🔴 This method can be a bit difficult to practice. Using more than one method to predict fertile window is more advisable.

🔴 The first day of abstinence is predicted either from the calendar, by subtracting 21 from the length of the shortest menstrual cycle in the preceding 6 months, or the

first day mucus is detected, whichever comes first.

🔴 The end of the fertile period is predicted by use of the body temperature change. You can  resume intercourse 3 days after the thermal

shift.

🔴 This method is not reliable if the woman is lactating or has irregular cycles or develops fever.

   😗    Withdrawal Method (Coitus Interruptus)

🔴 Coitus interruptus is a common practice.

🔴 Sex occurs as usual but the penis is withdrawn immediately before ejaculation.

🔴 This method is unreliable and pregnancy rates are high.

This is usually because the fluid secreted by the prostate before ejaculation occurs  usually contains active spermatozoa.

🔴 The withdrawal method imposes

a great strain upon the partner and can cause considerable anxiety

🔴 Sex might not be enjoyable for you as a woman as well because of this.

Advantages

🔴 Its free

🔴 It does not come with any contraindication

🔴 It does not affect the body in any way

🔴 It does not affect milk production

Disadvantages

🔴 Failure rate is high,

🔴 requires motivation

🔴no protection against HIV

and STD.

💥 I hope this is understandable
