Presidential Tribunal: What PEPT Expected To Do To Keep Democracy Alive In Nigeria

The Coalition of Concerned Nigerians (CCN) has spearheaded a crucial petition ahead of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) ruling which is expected to be handed down soon. The petition, addressed to some judges, lays bare the frustrations and concerns experienced by a significant percentage of the population.

According to the petition sent to the Hon. Judge Haruna Tsammani, the body, calls for fairness and openness in the current presidential election tribunal proceedings and has received more than 100 signatures from Nigerians.

Furthermore, the body complained that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu led "the wandering process of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which apparently hastily announced and declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu duly elected."

However, the CCN believes that the PEPT will not go in the same direction as the INEC, which has been accused by a large segment of Nigerians of being bribed by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to manipulate election results in favor of its presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was eventually declared the winner by the INEC.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Labor Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi had contested Tinubu's victory in the presidential election.

CCN has reminded the judiciary that it knows it has a responsibility to be the last hope of the common man and not a tool by which a few callous politicians can satisfy their selfish desires.

Interestingly, Nigerians and the international community are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the country's judiciary at this crucial time. And its decisions will have profound implications for the future of the nation if the principles of justice and justice are not upheld.

A few days ago, viral reports circulated on social media platforms that the PEPT had chosen September 16 to deliver its verdict on the case, but in response to this development, the secretary of the PEPC panel, Barr. Josephine J. Ekperrobe, dismissed the viral post stating there is "no date yet". She added that Nigerians must wait patiently for the court to complete its consideration of the evidence and the defense to reach its final verdict.
