Ahead Tinubu's Inauguration: Agitators Hijacked Radio Station In Ibadan

Few hours before the inauguration of president-elect Bola Tinubu, a group of youths in Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria, raided a radio station in the city on Sunday morning in an attempt to take over it, according to a report. The group was suspected of being a member of a secret organization demanding self-government from the state of Nigeria.

One of the station's employees, Amuludun FM, owned by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), told reporters that the station was hijacked at around 6am by the suspects who broke into the premises using various forms of incantations.

It was also revealed that the shakers were on the station before they hit. As soon as they entered the building, they allegedly rounded up some sleeping employees.

Some who were awake managed to escape.

The attack forced the station to shut down, according to a staffer who spoke after the station was recovered by security officers several hours later.

According to the station's general manager (GM), Stephen Agbaje, who confirmed the incident, said a few arrests had been made.

His word: “A group of agitators passed by at night and took control of the station, but the situation was brought under control by the security agents. They were able to reinstate the station and a few arrests were made,” he said. However, so far no group has claimed responsibility, and the purpose or demands of the troublemakers who hijacked the station are also unknown at the time of writing this report.

Meanwhile, this could be a warning sign to the incoming government of Bola Tinubu from self-rule agitators that they have a bigger task ahead of them and they may not find it easy as they will not stop demanding freedom from a Nigerian union.
