According to a source, commercial banks have been mandated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to issue old banknotes and receive the same deposits from customers. Commercial bank branches must generate deposit codes and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or business can make deposits.

Anambra state governor Charles Soludo confirmed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered commercial banks to issue and accept old naira notes as deposits.
Soludo, who was a former governor of the CBN, made it known in a statement he posted on his social media account. He explained that CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele provided the guidance at a bankers' committee meeting on Sunday.
His word: "The Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a telephone call on Sunday evening."
