Vegan Clotted Cream

Vegan Clotted Cream

Vegan Clotted Cream – Is there a dairy-free substitute for clotted cream?

Clotted cream unfortunately screams non-vegan.

It’s made using a unique process that separates the fat from the liquid of cow’s milk. And while it may be absolutely loaded with fat, there’s no denying that its rich, creamy and slightly sweet flavour is pretty special.

But if you’re following a Vegan diet, a dollop of regular clotted cream on a jammy scone can’t be your go-to treat when you’re looking to indulge.

But panic-not vegans! There are some options out there for Vegan Clotted Cream. And to be honest, pretty good ones.

Please note that this page contains affiliate links. While I only recommend products that I believe in, I may benefit financially, at no extra cost to you, from any purchases you make.

Is there a Dairy-free substitute for clotted cream?

Yes, some excellent substitutes are available for clotted cream these days.

Now, I don’t want to get your hopes too high, it’s probably best not to invite all your friends round for a clotted cream party.

If you used to know and love clotted cream it won’t quite be the same but there are still some good options nonetheless. Let’s take a look:

Where to buy vegan clotted cream?

I haven’t found anything that is actually vegan clotted cream but I’ve found the next best thing Vegan Double cream. Here are two great options: Elmlea Double Plant Cream Alternative and The Coconut Collaborative Plant-Based Double Cream.

Where to buy vegan double cream:

You can buy vegan double cream at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda, as well as some other big supermarkets in the UK.

Elmlea Double Plant Cream Alternative – This can be found in many of the bigger supermarkets in the UK such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.

The Coconut Collaborative Plant-Based Double Cream – This can be found on Ocado and in Sainsbury’s.

Where to buy vegan whipping cream:

You can buy vegan whipping cream online and it’s usually made from ingredients such as coconut and oat. Here are some of the options I’ve found:

Biona Organic Coconut Whipping Cream 400 ml – Dairy Free – Amazon

Oatly Whippable Creamy Oat – GreenBay

Schlagfix Vegan Sweetened Whipping Cream – GreenBay

If you’re after the perfect cake topping or something to spray all over your…hot chocolate, then you can order vegan whipped cream online, here are some options:

  • Dessert Topping Dairy Free Whipped Cream Topping – Amazon
  • Food Heaven Heavenly Whipped – Amazon
  • Schlagfix Vegan Spray Cream – GreenBay

You can also buy vegan whipped cream in larger supermarkets such as:

What can vegans use instead of heavy cream?

If your recipe calls for heavy cream and you’re looking for a plant-based alternative your best option is probably heavy vegan whipping cream or double cream.

Heavy cream generally has a butterfat percentage of 36 to 38% and double cream has about 48%. So they will both have a full and thick texture.

Here are some places to buy vegan heavy cream or double cream:

  • Biona Organic Coconut Whipping Cream 400 ml – Dairy Free – Amazon
  • Oatly Whippable Creamy Oat – GreenBay
  • Schlagfix Vegan Sweetened Whipping Cream – GreenBay
  • Elmlea Double Plant Cream Alternative
  • The Coconut Collaborative Plant-Based Double Cream

Can you whip Elmlea vegan cream?

Yes, you can whip Elmlea vegan cream, but don’t take my word for it, they even say it themselves on their website.

Elmlea says ‘Use Elmlea Double cream alternative as you would a dairy cream Elmlea Plant Double is our multipurpose cream alternative – whip it up for desserts, pour over pudding or stir in to sauces or pasta to further enrich your cooking.’
