Zimbabwe Has Launched Its First Satellite Into Space



On Tuesday, the Herald of Zimbabwe reported that the first Satellite, called ZimSat-1, was successfully Launched into space, ZimSat-1, a small satellite was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday.

It was successfully launched from the American Space Agency (NASA) in Virginia on the Cygnus NG-18 spacecraft. According to Herald the actual deployment of ZimSat-1 into orbit will be done by Japan's Kibo system about two weeks after its launch.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Fanuel Tagwira, said the launch of the satellite is a major step forward for the development of space technology in Zimbabwe.

Tagwira told the Herald that "We are entering this stage of development as a country where we can collect information that we can use in agriculture, health and other areas."

"We will have real time information instead of waiting for information coming from other people, Zimbabwe will be in a better position to gather information that it can use to take action, said Tagwira.
