As you continue reading, we will walk you through Grammarly’s user interface, use cases, how to use it on various platforms, and even compare it to other Grammarly alternatives on the market.

By the end of the review, you’ll know whether Grammarly is worth it.

Let’s get started!

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a popular Grammarly checker that was released in 2009. Over the years, it has evolved from a basic grammar checker into a plagiarism checker and advanced AI-powered writing assistant. It allows you to improve the readability of your works and rewrite sentences with a click.

Moreover, it also offers helpful extensions that let you use the tool on the go.

Grammarly is available as a free and premium version. The Grammarly free version includes basic grammar and spelling checking. However, Grammarly’s premium version offers additional features, such as plagiarism detection, advanced grammar checking, and style suggestions.

Who is Grammarly Right For?

Grammarly is right for anyone who wants to improve their writing. It is a comprehensive grammar checker and plagiarism detector that can help you catch errors in your grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.

However, keep in mind that it only supports the English language, so if you’re writing in English, Grammarly is a good choice.

Overall, it is ideal for:

  • Students
  • Writers
  • Authors
  • Copywriters
  • Bloggers
  • Content publishers
  • Business Owners and Professionals
  • English learners

Grammarly Review: Key Features

Let’s take a look at the best Grammarly features and how they will help you improve your writing.

1) Grammar, Punctuation, And Sentence Structure

If you’ve unwittingly broken a few English grammar and punctuation rules in your work, Grammarly will find them for you.

Along with suggestions for fixing your content from these errors, the tool also provides a reason for each one. Go through each of these suggestions one by one. Then, make an informed decision about whether the algorithm misread the content or whether there is a serious issue that has to be addressed.

2) Spelling Checker

Grammarly detects misspellings so that your writing remains effective. It also allows you to add unique words from your lexicon to your own personal dictionary.

If you’ve used particular words several times in your content, Grammarly also prompts you to use synonyms. These vocabulary enhancement advice are meant to improve your audience’s reading experience.

3) Clarity & Readability Enhancer

Even grammatically correct sentences might be difficult to understand if they are overly wordy and complicated. Grammarly suggests keeping your writing clear and easy to understand for readers.

4) Plagiarism Checker

Grammarly checks your writing content for duplicates by comparing it with other billions of pages across the web. If your text is plagiarized, then Grammarly returns the source and the percentage of text that’s been plagiarized.

The best part is that you don’t have to pay separately for a Grammarly plagiarism checker.

5) Writing Style

If you are writing for a specific audience with certain goals, Grammarly can customize its suggestions accordingly. When you start evaluating your text, the tool prompts you to choose goals, as shown below:

While tone and goal are experimental, the other factors can help you in tailoring your writing style to parameters such as sentence length, vocabulary, readability, and so on.

6) Reporting

You can view a report that details your grammar, spelling, plagiarism, and vocabulary correctness. This will help you improve over time.

Grammarly Review: Is Grammarly Easy to Use?

We have used various writing assistant tools, but Grammarly UI will always make us stick to it.

Grammarly has one of the most user-friendly interfaces of any editing tool.

What’s interesting about this tool is that the UI remains similar no matter where you use it. For example, the desktop version has the same appearance and features as the extensions.

Let’s start from the beginning to make everything clear.

The Grammarly signup process is quick and takes less than a few minutes. You can sign up using your Apple account, Gmail, or email. Once signed up, you can log in to Grammarly and personalize your settings so that it will provide suggestions accordingly.

Now, let’s talk about the dashboard.

Note: We’re using the browser version here for the screenshots and explanation.

We all know that when User Interface is good, we don’t have to spend more than a few minutes to get started.

That’s what happened to us when we used Grammarly for the first time.

We didn’t have to break a sweat to get our first document proofread. Grammarly recommends all the corrections by underlining the mistakes.

You can see the errors underlined are in different colors. Here’s a short breakdown of what each color means:

  • Red: Grammar errors and spelling mistakes
  • Blue: Clarity and wordiness
  • Green: Synonyms
  • Purple: Delivery

You do not need to make changes manually. Grammarly will automatically correct the mistakes with the click of a button.

There is also no learning curve if you use the Grammarly mobile app. The mobile application works in the same way as the browser version. Simply add the Grammarly keyboard to your phone and start checking for errors.

On the right side of the screen, you can see all of your improvements as well as your total score. This score is based on the whole content and takes into account all of the Grammarly parameters.

Our Verdict

Grammarly is a user-friendly tool for anyone. There is no learning curve from the moment you start until the moment you check the content. The interface is also clean and uncluttered, which makes Grammarly’s UI 5/5!

How to Use Grammarly: Different Ways

You may be wondering, “Do I have to copy and paste all that I write into a text box to check my writing?”

The answer is no. There are undoubtedly better ways to go about it.

Grammarly is an internet-based tool. Therefore, you must be online to use it.

However, there are various ways to check your work, including:

1) Grammarly Online Tool

The first approach is to simply copy and paste your text into the Grammarly online tool. To do so, go to the dashboard and click New. You’ll be sent to a blank page.

Copy your text onto the page and wait a few seconds for the site to do its magic. Grammarly proofreads, analyses, and suggests changes for your text in a matter of seconds.

Furthermore, if you have a complete ready document, you may simply upload it to the website. Simply choose Upload instead of New, choose a document from your system, and Grammarly will analyze the content in the same way.

2) Grammarly Desktop Application

Grammarly’s desktop app is available for Windows and macOS.

You need to go to the Grammarly website and download the application installer. The installation process is quite easy. After that, you may start using a tool similar to the web version.

3) Grammarly Browser Extension (Chrome, Safari, Edge)

One of the easiest ways to use Grammarly is through a browser extension.

You can find a link to install the Grammarly extension right on the website’s front page. You can also search for Grammarly on the Chrome Web Store.

Simply add the extension to Chrome like any other extension, and it will start checking your writing when you use it on different websites.

This includes Gmail, which helps you while composing an email, and Google Docs for those of you who prefer Google’s word processor.

4) Microsoft Office Add-In

If you have a Windows operating system and prefer to write in Microsoft Office, you can download and use the Grammarly Add-in. Once installed, you can fix and correct an article, report, or email straight within Microsoft Word.

5) Grammarly Keyboard

Grammarly comes with an official smartphone keyboard app for iOS and Android devices. When active, the keyboard app analyses your writing while you create a text message or email. It helps you fix mistakes while working on the go. It also contains clever predictions to help you type faster.

How Much Does Grammarly Cost?

Is Grammarly free?

Yes, you can use Grammarly for free forever.

One of the things we love about Grammarly is that you can use it without paying anything. Grammarly’s free version has no limits, which means you can use it continually without any time limit or trial period.

However, to unlock all of Grammarly’s features, you will need to upgrade to Grammarly Premium.

The current price for Grammarly Premium is:

  • $12/mo when you pay annually ($144.00 in total)
  • $20/mo when you pay quarterly
  • $30/mo when you pay monthly

There is also a Grammarly Business Plan, which costs $15/mo per user when billed annually. Or $25 per user per month. This offers everything included in Grammarly Premium with the addition of an admin panel, statistics, roles and permissions, etc.

Grammarly Free vs Premium: What is The Difference?

Initially, when we started writing, we started with the free version. The free version helped us with all the basic corrections in our content.

Grammarly’s free version detects grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It also allows you to set specific writing goals, identify clarity problems, improve conciseness, and more.

At first, we thought the free version would do it all. However, upgrading to the premium version gave us a better understanding of our mistakes and how to make our writing better.

With Grammarly Premium, you get additional tools like the plagiarism checker, writing suggestions, automated citations, advanced reports, and more.

Below is the screenshot of Grammarly Free vs. Premium to make your decision easier.

Grammarly Review: Is Grammarly Premium Worth it?

The short answer is yes, Grammarly Premium is worth it.

When compared to the free version, the premium version adds extra features and allows you to customize the suggestions based on your brand standards.

Furthermore, the Premium version offers you access to GrammarlyGo’s full functionality as well as its plagiarism detector.

So, if you want to improve your writing with a comprehensive writing tool, upgrading to Grammarly Premium is worthwhile.

GrammarlyGO

GrammarlyGO is a generative AI tool from Grammarly that helps you compose, rewrite, ideate, and reply to text. It is contextually aware and accounts for your personal voice, offering relevant and personalized suggestions that respect user agency and authenticity.

GrammarlyGO is available as part of Grammarly Premium and is currently only available on desktop devices.

What Can GrammarlyGO Do?

With GrammarlyGO, you can:

  • Compose Text: GrammarlyGO can generate text from scratch based on a prompt or instruction.
  • Rewrite Text: It can also rewrite existing text to make it clearer, concise, or engaging.
  • Generate Ideas: GrammarlyGO can also help you generate ideas for new content.
  • Personalize Writing: It can personalize your writing to match your voice and tone. This is especially useful for writing emails and other types of professional communication.

How Accurate is Grammarly Plagiarism Checker?

Grammarly is an excellent tool in many aspects. However, we found it a bit inaccurate for plagiarism detection.

Let’s test it out below.

We copy-pasted one of your paragraphs from our already-published article. Then, we ran the plagiarism detector on it, and Grammarly showed us that the content was 100% original.

On the other hand, when we used a free plagiarism checker like Duplichecker, it immediately detected plagiarism in our article.

So, overall, Grammarly’s plagiarism checker is not entirely accurate. So, it’s best to cross-check your content with other plagiarism detectors.

Our Verdict

Grammarly plagiarism checker is not 100% accurate. Instead, we recommend double-checking it with other plagiarism detectors to finalize your content. We give Grammarly plagiarism 3/5.

Is Grammarly Safe?

Grammarly is safe to use, and it does not steal your data.

Now, you may be wondering: How do you know it’s safe? Here why:

  • We have been using it for over six years without any issues.
  • It is well-known among bloggers and writers.
  • Has been around for more than 14 years.
  • More than 30 million users daily use Grammarly.

As a blogger yourself, Grammarly is our favorite writing assistant, and it greatly improves our writing. It has been part of our blogging journey for more than six years now, and up to this point, we have not encountered any safety issues.

In fact, we’re still using it as we write this article to check for spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors.

Grammarly is also recommended by many popular bloggers such as Neil Patel and Brian Dean, as well as some popular blogs such as HubSpot, Wix, and others.

So, if Grammarly were not a safe tool, then these popular bloggers wouldn’t recommend it to their users at all costs.

Taking all these factors into consideration, as well as our personal experiences, we can confidently say that Grammarly is completely safe and secure as one of the best writing assistants out there.

Our Verdict

Despite checking our content every day via Grammarly, we haven’t faced any security issues. Our content has always been safe, so we can trust Grammarly with our content. As a result, we give it 5/5.

Can Grammarly Replace Human Editing?

Grammarly is a powerful tool that can help to improve the quality of writing. However, it is not a perfect replacement for human proofreaders and editors.

Grammarly detects most errors, yet it still falls short of the human brain. Even if you use the premium version to review the text, you must still personally proofread it.

Grammarly can overlook small errors that a human eye would notice. As a result, Grammarly does not completely eliminate the need for human proofreading. Even after you’ve run your text via Grammarly, you should still proofread it.

Grammarly Alternatives and Competitors

Grammarly isn’t the only online grammar checker you have at your disposal. It is, although the most popular, with more than 30 million users.

However, it has its own limits too. Since Grammarly only supports English, you may want to look at alternatives that have similar or even better features.

Below are some of the best Grammarly alternatives you can check out and know how Grammarly stands against them.

1) ProWritingAid

If you don’t want to spend money on Grammarly, ProWritingAid is an excellent place to start.

However, the UI of ProWritingAid might be daunting at first. The design appears to be out of date, with several grouped options on your dashboard. If that isn’t a concern for you, ProWritingAid provides a lot of great features.

However, the free version of ProWritingAid can only check 500 words at a time. However, with Grammarly’s free version, you can check up to 10,000 words at a time.

Simply said, ProWritingAid is more suited to fiction writers, but Grammarly is suitable for everyone.

2) Ginger

Ginger is also an excellent alternative to Grammarly.

Similar to the Grammarly app, Ginger offers spelling and grammar tips based on the context. The two interfaces are also very similar: you’ll see an underlined error, followed by an in-browser suggestion for how to correct it. Plus, it also has a mobile app.

Furthermore, it has a text reader to let you hear how smoothly your writing flows.

The best part about Ginger is that you can use Ginger’s translation tool to convert your text into 40 different languages.

3) WhiteSmoke

WhiteSmoke offers a grammar checker, style checker, plagiarism checker, and translation tools.

Its features are more basic than Grammarly’s, yet it has an edge in several areas. It contains Safari, Opera, and Firefox browser extensions, as well as full desktop apps for macOS and Windows. It can also translate languages.

One disadvantage of WhiteSmoke is that it does not have a free version. However, the online version based on browser extensions is less expensive than Grammarly Premium and contains WhiteSmoke’s style checker.

Final Verdict: Grammarly Review (2023)

Since we’ve reached the end of this Grammarly review, let’s summarize it with our final verdict.

Overall, Grammarly is our top choice when it comes to online writing tools. While it has some limitations, like plagiarism accuracy, none of them overshadow its amazing capabilities.

Even the free version allows you to review your content for all of the basic changes. When compared with other writing tools on the market, Grammarly’s free version outperforms most of them.

You can use the free version if you only need basic editing and checking. However, you should use the Premium version for further corrections and to ensure that your final draft is error-free!

We hope our Grammarly review helps you in answering your question, “Is Grammarly worth it”.
