Abstract of Influences of Friction Welding Process Parameters on Tensile Strength of Aluminum- Stainless Steel Dissimilar Joints

Abstract:
Several situations arise in industrial practice, which call for the joining of Dissimilar materials. The growing availability of new materials and higher requirements being placed on materials creates a greater need for joints of dissimilar metals. The joining of dissimilar metals is generally more challenging than that of similar metals to be joined. To take full advantage of the properties of different metals it is necessary to produce high-quality joints between them. Various methods of joining dissimilar materials have been introduced, both to meet the needs of users and to enhance added vary if few naturals while keeping the merits of the existing intact, It is difficult to join dissimilar metals by conventional due to different characteristics of each material. Friction Welding can be used to join metals of widely differing thermal and mechanical properties. Friction welding is the only viable method in this field to overcome the difficulties encountered in the joining of dissimilar materials with a wide variety of physical characteristics. The advantage of this process is, among others, no melting high reproducibility, short production time, and low energy input.

In the present research, friction welding was applied to join the AISI 304 stainless steel with AA2024 Aluminum. The influences of friction welding parameters on the tensile strength of joints were evaluated.
