Auto Expo 2023: All at a glance.

1. Maruti Suzuki eVX concept

Via: HT Auto

The first thing shown off this year was the Maruti Suzuki eVX Concept, a sneak peek at Maruti’s first electric car, which will go on sale in 2025. This new platform will be built with Toyota. The eVX is about the same size as the current Creta. It is 4,300mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.

The eVX concept has a new design language that differs from Maruti’s current range of IC (internal combustion) engines. The SUV concept has very short overhangs, a high ground clearance, bulging wheel arches, a sloping roof like a coupe, and rugged cladding all around. Maruti has said that this new eVX SUV concept will have a 60kWh battery and a range of about 500km in real life. There will also be a cheaper model with a smaller battery of about 48kWh and a real-world range of about 400km.

2. Kia EV9 Concept

The EV9 concept shows what Kia’s best all-electric SUV will look like. It will be almost as big as the Range Rover and will go into production at the end of 2023. The EV9 concept has a 77.4kWh battery pack, but we need to learn how far it can go or how much power it can put out. It is built on the E-GMP platform and has an electrical architecture with 800V that lets it charge quickly at up to 350kW. When it goes into production, the EV9 is likely to have a top-of-the-line model with two motors and four-wheel drive, as well as an entry-level model with a single motor driving the rear axle.
The new EV9 has a square shape and a new take on the “tiger nose” grille, a brand trademark. It stands straight, has clean lines, flat surfaces, and a large glass roof with a sharp bend after the C-pillar. Inside, the EV9 concept has a simple dashboard with two screens for information and entertainment, a flat-bottom steering wheel with no spokes, and no physical controls.

3. Lexus LF-30 and LF-Z concepts

At Auto Expo 2023, Lexus showed off two concept cars: the LF-30 and the LF-Z EV. The first one, which has Lexus design cues, is as far out as concepts get. Its interior is similar to the brand’s Tazuna concept, which is about making a space where the driver can focus on driving. The front passenger seat is said to look like a first-class seat on an aeroplane. Four electric motors power the LF-30 concept. Together, they make 544hp and 700Nm of torque. The LF-30 has a WLTP-rated range of 500km and a 110kWh battery. The Lexus LF-30 can also charge wirelessly, which is an exciting feature.

The LF-Z concept, which also has the Tazuna’s interior, looks like the Toyota BZ4X but is made by Lexus. It uses AI to learn the driver’s tastes and habits so that the audio playback, navigation, and choice of drive mode can be tailored to the driver. The LF-Z works with two electric motors that make 544hp and 700Nm of torque together. The range of the 90kWh battery is 600km.

4. Tata electric concepts

Tata Motors stole the show at this year’s Auto Expo, with as many as four concepts on display. These included the ICE version of the Curvv Concept, the Avinya Concept, the new Harrier EV Concept, and the Sierra EV concept, the last two of which are close to being ready for production.

ICE version of the Curvv

The new ICE version of the Curvv concept will be like a modified version of the Nexon platform, but it will be more than 4 metres long. The Curvv has been shown before as an EV concept, but this ICE version had a body and interior that were more ready for production. When it comes out, it will have new turbo-petrol engines from Tata that are 1.2 and 1.5 litres. The Avinya was shown to the public for the first time at Auto Expo. It shows off the brand’s first Gen 3 EV, built on a skateboard platform made just for it. It is said to have a range of more than 500km.

Harrier EV concept

Tata also showed off the Harrier EV concept, which looks at some of the design features that the updated ICE Harrier Can most probably have. When it comes out in 2024, the electric version will be a Gen 2 car that uses a heavily changed version of the OMEGA platform. It will also have the option of two electric motors. This will be the first time the Harrier will be available with four-wheel drive.

Sierra EV concept

Last but not least, the second version of the Sierra EV concept, which is getting closer to a production-ready version, was undoubtedly the star of Tata Motors’ booth. This model has four doors and standard controls and switches inside. Like the Harrier EV, the Sierra EV is similar to Gen 2 architecture, a heavily modified ALFA platform for electrification. It will also give rise to an ICE version powered by Tata’s new-generation 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.
