City Directory(Guide): Paris | France

When I was five years old, my family relocated to Paris. I feel most at home here. Every time I return after a trip, the city is lovely, compact, and serene. It's ideal.

OPENINGS Liberté Patisserie The 10th arrondissement's Boulangerie is an industrial-style bakery with cement walls, pendant fluorescent lights, and old-fashioned bread racks. Also, there is an open laboratory where you can observe how the chocolaty madeleines and buttery croissants are made.

Modern French food is served at Septime in the 11th arrondissement, where the setting is a laid-back farmhouse. The menu emphasises seasonal ingredients, such as milk-fed veal with salted trout eggs and seasoned asparagus with orange slices. Make reservations for supper weeks beforehand,

alternatively, for a higher chance of getting a table, come in during lunch. Visit Clamato, the sibling establishment of Septime, if you're in the mood for seafood.

The greatest sandwiches can be found in the Marais at L'As du Fallafel. It is referred as be "the falafel destination in Paris, certainly in Europe" by The New York Times. The falafel has a crunchy outside and a moist interior. Within soft pita, it is stuffed with creamy hummus, roasted eggplant, and shredded cabbage. Tahini sauce is then drizzled over the entire dish. Money alone.

It's worth taking a brief detour from French cuisine to visit the vibrant, Melbourne-inspired Holybelly (10th) cafe with loud music. The two sides of fluffy scrambled eggs were delicious (options included pan-fried haloumi cheese and roasted garlic mushrooms)

A PLACE TO HANG

The spectacular 18th-century palace and sculpture garden known as Musée Rodin in the 7th arrondissement is home to Auguste Rodin's creations. If you're pressed for time, choose to merely see the gardens, where eight of Rodin's works, including The Thinker, are shown among rose bushes. Bonus: The ticket cost is reduced by half.

Take time to walk along the banks of the Seine, the river that flows through the centre of Paris. It's a pleasant way to observe the city as it borders ten arrondissements. Have a cheese, bread, and wine picnic along the riverbank if you're hungry.

Take a stroll in the lovely Jardin du Luxembourg. After that, head over to the adjacent Bread & Roses in the 6th arrondissement if you need a noon energy boost.

Explore the Grande Galerie de l'Evolution in the 5th arrondissement if you're travelling with children. It has a 19th-century hall with a glass dome that houses more than 7,000 preserved animals. Very innovative sound effects have been used. Moreover, there are more than 600 animal skeletons at the nearby Gallery de Paléontologie et d'Anatomie Comparée, also in the 5th, including those of a rhino, a hedgehog, and a massive whale.

Discover the 4th arrondissement's Centre Georges Pompidou. The largest collection of modern art in Europe, including works by Matisse and Andy Warhol, may be seen by riding the erratic outdoor escalators. A panoramic view of the city can be seen by going upstairs since rooftop access is included in entry.

The Musée d'Orsay (7th arrondissement, directly across from the Tuileries Gardens) is housed in a former train station that was constructed to welcome guests to the 1900 World's Fair. It exhibits artwork including sculptures, paintings, photographs, and architectural designs. There are works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, and Van Gogh available.

Joanna's opinion:

One evening, I pedalled my bike along the River while admiring the glittering Eiffel Tower, pinching myself the entire time. The Vélib' shared bike system in Paris makes it simple to hire wheels. There are bike rental locations all around the city; simply use your credit card to reserve one and then return it to any other location. What a joyous, liberating way to discover a place!

STORE LOCATION

Visit L'Appartement Sézane right away! You may try on lovely items, like dresses, jeans, and shoes, at the physical store in the 2nd arrondissement and place orders for delivery (free anywhere in the city in 48 hours). Visit the nearby La Librairie, our second physical store devoted to books, coffee, and leather bags, if you want to take something away right now.

Visit la Mère de Famille if you're in the mood for some Parisian chocolate or if you need something to take home. There are several locations of this quaint store in the neighbourhood. To enjoy the chocolatier in all its splendour, purchase the variety box or stock up on their almond-paste recipe.

Merci is a unique design shop with a prime location in the Marais. Things like tiny hoop earrings, blush-colored linen towels, and upcycled pickle jar lights are available. After that, have an espresso in the café where the walls are lined with used French novels.

A delightful home goods store called Astier de Villatte is located in the first arrondissement and is well-known for its white-glazed crockery and aromatic candles. (Their "Anchorage" version has musk, magnolia, citrus, and a mossy scent.) John Derian decoupage plates and paperweights are also available.

The very first department store ever opened its doors in the 6th arrondissement of Paris as Le Bon Marché. Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut, the company's founders, aimed to build the "type of store that would dazzle all the senses" in 1858.

PLACES TO RESIDE

The 7th arrondissement's Hôtel Thoumieux is managed by renowned chef Jean François Piège. Of course, there is a fantastic restaurant and bakery, and the wallpaper in the apartments is stunning!

The top-rated hidden hotel is Hôtel Particulier Montmartre. The hotel, which is located in Montmartre, is filled with opulent rooms and suites.

Visit onefinestay if you'd prefer to rent an apartment. They have gorgeous residences that are outfitted for visitors (with extra chargers, beauty products, neighbourhood guides, even a local cell phone). Two entertaining areas to think about are Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Marais. Stella and I stayed here and loved it (Joanna's note:

Ultimate Remark

The city of Paris is quite popular with tourists, so it's vital to keep in mind that some of the more well-known landmarks and attractions can get very congested. Consider going to well-known attractions like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, and Notre-Dame Cathedral during off-peak times, such as early in the morning or late in the day, to make the most of your time and avoid long queues. Also, if you want to save time and skip the line, think about ordering your tickets in advance. Planning ahead and choosing your visit times wisely will help you make the most of your time in Paris and have a better overall experience.
