SHIMLA (DIARYTIMES): After the Poonch terror attack, former Pakistani diplomat Abdul Basit fears that India will conduct another surgical strike on Pakistan. After the Poonch terror attack, the fear of retaliatory attack in Pakistan has started looming and it has become a topic of discussion.
In a recent video, Basit said, ‘Now people in Pakistan are talking about another surgical strike or air strike by India. I don’t think he will do that now because he is chairing the SCO meeting and the G20 this year. As long as he is on the post of President, no one sees courage from India. But during the elections next year, India may do it again. This could happen just before the elections in India.
Abdul Basit also tried to justify the horrific act in Poonch, in which five army men lost their lives. He said, “Whoever has done this, be it mujahideen or whoever, they have targeted the army, not civilians. They are engaged in a legitimate struggle. If you are doing a movement, you are targeting the army.” but not civilians, as international law allows.”
The former Pakistani diplomat also said, ‘India knows where we stand.’
This video has come a few days after the Poonch terror attack. On 20 April, unidentified terrorists hurled a grenade at an army vehicle passing through Bhimber Gali in Rajouri sector and Poonch, killing five soldiers.
The army said five Rashtriya Rifles personnel deployed for anti-terrorist operations were killed in the incident.
The mortal remains of all the five jawans were brought to their native villages on Saturday.
According to sources, the terrorists are suspected to be from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Following the attack, the Army launched a massive operation on Friday to trace a group of around six to seven terrorists whom it said were behind the attack.
In a recent development in the case, bullets were found at the spot where five soldiers lost their lives in Bhimber Gali in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch.
Defense sources told ANI at the time, “Army and security agencies have received inputs about the presence of 6-7 terrorists operating in two groups in Rajouri-Poonch sector.” (DIARYTIMES)
