Afghan Foreign Ministry explosion: IS-K claims responsibility for heinous attack

At least six people were killed in a massive explosion near Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry in Kabul on Monday and was carried out by the Islamic State, Reuters news agency reported.
In its Telegram account, IS-K claimed responsibility for the suicide attack near a security checkpoint leading to the foreign ministry in the Afghan capital, Reuters reported, citing police.
Monday’s incident happened at lunchtime when the city is particularly crowded as government office workers leave early for the day during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
According to Khama Press, the blast happened when Foreign Ministry employees left their offices.
“In Malik Azgar Square … a suicide bomber was identified and killed before he could reach his target, but his explosives detonated,” said Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul police. He said several people were wounded, including three members of Taliban security forces.
Khama Press reported that several ambulances arrived in the area to transfer the injured to Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital.
Kabul and other urban areas have witnessed several attacks in recent months, some of which have been claimed by Islamic State militants.
An explosion in January killed at least five people and injured dozens at the foreign ministry as employees exited the building at the end of the work day.
The attack was condemned by many individuals and organizations both domestically and abroad, including the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan.
There have been reports of several people suffering from the incident in Kabul today, at least one of whom was a child. It is intolerable that Afghans who go about their daily lives continue to be attacked, UNAMA tweeted.
