Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja: A Trip to the Touching Theme of “Child Trafficking”

The much-awaited Durga Puja brings life and celebration to a small street in the center of North Kolkata. Kashi Bose Lane, one of the oldest Barowari Pujas in the area, has a long tradition of celebrating the goddess's homecoming.

This year, as Durga Puja already arrived, there is a unique sense of excitement, and the theme they’ve selected is “Child Trafficking”, which is not only fascinating but also socially important.

Uncovering Kashi Bose Lane Theme: Child Trafficking

Everyone was in wonder and deep thought when the Kashi Bose Lane Puja committee revealed this year’s theme. The topic of child trafficking resonates with the general public and draws attention to a serious problem. The artists have poured their hearts and souls into creating idols and scenes that celebrate the victory of good over evil while illustrating the awful fact of child trafficking.

Sashi Panja, the minister of women’s & children’s development and social welfare in Bengal, conducted a “Chokkhudan” on Wednesday, by drawing the goddess’s eye. 86 club members have also promised to donate their eyes in honor of the 86th Durga Puja celebration, showing their dedication to a worthwhile cause. This effort now has the backing from the Bengal Health Department.

Somen Dutta, a general secretary of the Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja Samity said, “Trafficking has become a terrifying shadow throughout the world as an organized crime. We wonder if children of all ages will ever be able to return to society after being auctioned off and sold into child labor, begging, or sexual exploitation. So, in this environment of such hardship, do they still desire to be ‘Umas’?”

This year’s theme was created by Rintu Das, while Amal Pal brought the idols to life, and Srijato wrote the Kashi Bose Lane theme tune. Visitors can enter the pandal starting on October 16.
