The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President and mining magnate Patrice Motsepe owns the South African football club Mamelodi Sundowns. In 2004, he bought majority shares (51%) and became the owner of the club. The club has enjoyed much success, having won multiple domestic titles. Sundowns are also one of the richest clubs in Africa. Motsepe has a net worth of $2.9 billion.

Johann Rupert, the second richest man in Africa, owns Stellenbosch FC, based in Cape Town. As of 2023, his net worth stands at $13.3 billion. He owns several companies. He’s the CEO of Financiere Richemont, a Swiss luxury goods business, and is also into mining with his company Remgro.

Shola Akinlade

Shola Akinlade has a net worth of $100 million. With that, he’s acquired 55% of Danish club Aarhus Fremad. He’s also the Co-Founder of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Sporting Lagos FC.

Kunle Soname  – Remo Stars

Kunle Soname’s love for football led him to start his club Remo Stars which plays in the Nigerian Professional Football League. He has a net worth of $110 million. Aside from Remo, he’s also among Africa’s richest people to invest in a European football club. In 2015, Kunle bought a 70% stake in Portuguese club CD Feirense and became its owner.

Kaizer Motaung – Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Motaung founded Kaizer Chiefs in 1970 and has overseen its growth on and off the field. The Amakhosi, as they are known, is one of the most valuable clubs in Africa and the second richest in South Africa, with a net worth of $9.1 million. They’ve generated this through winning domestic and continental titles, ticket sales, lucrative sponsorships, and selling club merchandise. Motaung is worth $40 million. 

Irvin Khoza – Orlando Pirates

Irvin Khoza owns the oldest football club in South Africa, Orlando Pirates. He has a net worth of $10 million. Khoza has made Pirates one of the best clubs in the country. It was the first team to win the CAF Champions League.

Ali Haddad 

Ali Haddad is the owner of the Algerian club USM Algiers. His net worth of Over $300 million makes him one of the richest club owners in Africa. The club has enjoyed massive success under his stewardship. It’s clinched at least three domestic league titles and has constantly challenged for continental honors.

Moise Katunmi Chapwe – Tout Puissant Mazembe 

With a net worth of $60 million, Moise Katunmi joins the elite African owners of football clubs on the continent. Katumi owns T.P. Mazembe, one of the most successful clubs in Congo. They’ve won a record 19 titles and 5 CAF Champions League titles.
