Soludo requests that the case files handled by Zone 13, RRS Awkuzu be reviewed
Anambra’s Governor Chukwuma Soludo has instructed the State’s Attorney General to request and evaluate all case files involving claims of violations of human rights handled by Police Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, and the Rapid Reaction Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.
After viral reports of alleged illegal imprisonment, kidnapping, extrajudicial killings, and human organ harvesting by a group of important officers from both formations, Mr. Soludo made the call.
In a statement issued by his press secretary, Christian Aburime, Mr. Soludo stated that he had been made aware of media reports about suspected crimes committed by some police officers in Zone 13, Ukpo, and alleged violations of human rights committed by some officers (RRS), Awkuzu.
“According to the preliminary investigation, the Inspector General of Police established a Special Investigation Panel to look into the claims and issue a report afterward.
I applaud the Inspector General of Police for acting quickly.
“In the interim, I have asked the Anambra State Attorney General to promptly request and evaluate all the files of cases involving allegations of having broken state laws that are being handled by the aforementioned RRS.
This will allow the Attorney General to issue the required directives or pursue the appropriate legal actions in accordance with sections 148, 149, and 150 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Anambra State 2022 and section 211 of the Constitution.”
Mr. Soludo gave the populace the reassurance that his administration was closely watching the matter and would see to it that justice was served if anyone was discovered to be at fault.
In order to maintain public peace while waiting for the investigation’s findings, the governor pleaded with the populace to be patient and let the law take its course.
“My administration has zero tolerance for criminality and will always uphold the supremacy of the law while making sure that those who deserve it receive punishment,”
