NDLEA stops 1,430 kg of Cannabis sativa headed for Cross River

A shipment of 1,340 kg of Cannabis Sativa was being transported from Ogbese in Ondo state to Odukpani in Cross River, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

This was revealed on Sunday in a statement released in Abuja by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA.

According to him, the goods were loaded into a vehicle owned by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and were being driven to Okurikang Okoyong in the Cross River local government area of Odukpani.

Following reliable intelligence, the journey was watched for three weeks, according to Babafemi, and upon arrival, 130 bags of marijuana were recovered.

The 1.430 tons of cocaine that were seized came from the LNG tanker, and 13 motorcycles that the cartel had hired to transport the shipment deep into the Odukpani forest were impounded.

Babafemi added that four individuals were detained in Kano in connection with 229 blocks of skunk weighing 131.1kgs: Ado Shuaibu, Yahaya Shuaibu, Mamman Sani, and Umar Musa Yakubu.

He said that while Ado, Yahaya, and Mamman were taken into custody on Saturday, February 11, at Garin Balarabe, Maigatari, Jigawa state, Musa was taken into custody on Tuesday, February 7, in Tumfafi village, Kano.

According to him, “Aisha Muhammad, another suspect, was detained in Kano’s Koki neighborhood with 17kg of cannabis.”

He claims that on Sunday, February 5, no less than four members of a syndicate that used dispatch motorcycles to distribute illegal substances in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos were detained.

Tijani Hakeem, Eric Maku, Ahmed Jubril, and Adobi Chris are among them.

1.88kg of “Loud” and other miscellaneous paraphernalia were discovered on them at the time of their arrest, the officer reported.

The NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, was reported by Babafemi as praising the officers—both male and female—for their dedication and professionalism in the fight to rid Nigeria of the danger of illicit narcotics.

Without fear or favor, Marwa said that the agency would continue to pursue anyone or any group engaged in the illegal trade.

He exhorted all NDLEA officers across the nation to continue relentlessly pursuing the corporate objective.
