Hadith on Faith: Islam and the People of the Book

Sahih Muslim 153
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire.

  • This Hadith is a narration of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reported by Abu Huraira, in which he stated that anyone from the Jewish or Christian community who hears about him but does not believe in him or the message that he has been sent with, and dies in this state of disbelief, will be among the inhabitants of Hellfire. The Hadith highlights the importance of believing in the message of Islam brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for attaining salvation in the Hereafter. It also emphasizes the gravity of rejecting or denying the message of Islam, which leads to eternal punishment in Hellfire. However, it is important to note that the Hadith does not refer to those who have not heard about Islam or Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and, therefore, could not accept or reject it.
