Sahih Muslim 1850
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Abdullah al-Bajali that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who is killed under the banner of a man who is blind (to his just cause), who raises the slogan of family or supports his own tribe, dies the death of one belonging to the days of Jahiliyya

• This hadith (narration) from Sahih Muslim is warning against blindly following leaders who are only focused on their personal interests, such as promoting their own family or tribe, rather than a just and righteous cause. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is emphasizing the importance of fighting for a noble and just cause, rather than blindly following someone who is not truly worthy of leadership. He is cautioning that anyone who is killed fighting under the banner of such a leader will not receive the reward of a martyr and will die a death similar to those who lived in the pre-Islamic era of ignorance (Jahiliyya).

In essence, this hadith teaches us the importance of looking beyond personal interests and tribal affiliations, and instead, striving for justice, righteousness, and the greater good of all. It also warns against following leaders who do not have these values at the forefront of their leadership, as their cause is not worth fighting for.
