Original Sin and the Creation of Man

In Islam, the belief in original sin is rejected as it contradicts the central Islamic belief in the absolute unity and oneness of God (tawhid), and the concept of individual accountability and free will. According to Islam, every person is born pure and sinless, and it is only through their own actions that they may become sinful. Islamic teachings emphasize the importance of personal responsibility and accountability for one’s actions. This is because each person is responsible for their own choices and actions, and will be held accountable for them on the Day of Judgment. Muslims are encouraged to strive towards righteousness and to constantly seek forgiveness for their sins through sincere repentance and good deeds. The Islamic concept of tawbah, or repentance, allows individuals to ask for forgiveness from God and to start anew, thereby wiping away their past misdeeds. In conclusion, the concept of original sin does not play a role in Islamic belief and teaching. Instead, Islam places emphasis on the importance of personal responsibility and accountability for one’s actions, and provides a path for individuals to constantly strive towards righteousness and seek forgiveness for their sins.

Quran 2:30

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.” They said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.

• The verse is referring to when God informed the angels of his plan to create human beings on earth and give them authority. The angels expressed their concern about humans causing corruption and violence, but God reassured them that He has knowledge beyond theirs and that the creation of humans is part of his plan.

Quran 2:31-32

And He taught Adam the names – all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, “Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful – They said, “Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.

• These verses describe how God taught Adam the names of all things and then tested the angels by asking them to inform Him of these names. The angels acknowledged their limited knowledge and stated that only God has knowledge and wisdom. Quran 38:71-76

[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay – So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration, So the angels prostrated – all of them entirely – [ Allah ] said, “O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty? – He said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.

• The verses describe God’s creation of man from clay and the command for the angels to prostrate themselves to him. The Devil (Iblees) refused to do so and claimed to be better than man, citing the difference in their creation materials.

When Iblees refused to prostrate to Adam, Allah expelled him and cursed him

Quran 38:77-85
Allah said, “Then get out of Paradise, for indeed, you are expelled. And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense – He said, “My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected – [ Allah ] said, “So indeed, you are of those reprieved – Until the Day of the time well-known – [Iblees] said, “By your might, I will surely mislead them all- [ Allah ] said, “The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say – [That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together.

Quran,17:63
God said, “Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of you – an ample recompense

Indeed, My servants – no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators, And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

Quran 16:99-100
Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord, [ Satan’s ] authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allah .

The devil can only mislead those who follow him and willingly choose to ignore God’s guidance. Then the Shaytaan whispered to Adam and his wife, and tempted them to eat from the forbidden tree

Quran 20:120-121
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, “O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate? – And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

Their Lord called to them and said

So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord caller to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?

• The meaning of this passage is that Adam and Eve, the first humans in Islamic belief, were tricked by Satan into eating from the forbidden tree in Paradise. As a result of their disobedience, their private parts became exposed and they felt shame, covering themselves with leaves. God then called out to them and reminded them of His warning against eating from the tree and that Satan was their enemy.

When they ate from the tree, they regretted what they had done, and said:

They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Quran 2:37

Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

This is the way for Adam and his descendents: whoever sins then repents sincerely, Allaah will accept his repentance

Quran 42:25

And it is He who accepts repentance from his servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do.

Then ALLAH sent Adam and his wife, and Iblees, down to the earth, and He sent down Revelation to them

Quran 2:38-39

We said, “Go down from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve – And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs – those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

Quran 7:24
Allah said, “Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.

Quran 55:14
He created man Adam from clay like [that of] pottery.

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.” [This] – lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware, Or [lest] you say, “It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?” And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and perhaps they will return.

• This verse is referring to the pre-existence of the soul, According to this verse, the soul existed before being embodied in the physical body, and was made to bear witness to God’s lordship. The meaning of the phrase “lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, ‘Indeed, we were of this unaware, Or [lest] you say, “It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?” is that Allah took the descendants of Adam and made them testify that He was their Lord, so that they would not be able to claim on the Day of Judgment that they did not know that Allah was their Lord or that they were only following their ancestors in worshiping false gods. This testimony was given to prevent them from making excuses on the Day of Judgment, and to encourage them to return to the right path.

Quran 40: 11
They ( Disbelievers) will say ( On the day of Judgement ), “Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?

• The soul is believed to have a pre-existent state before birth and experiences a spiritual death when it is separated from its connection with God. This pre-existent soul is then given life when it is breathed into the body at birth. The verse is referring to this concept of the soul’s pre-existence and its repeated experiences of death and life.

How life began on Earth

Quran 32:7-9
Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay. Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained, Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.

Quran 23:13-14
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging, Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.

Quran 39:6
He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah , your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?

• Qur’an 39:6 is refer to the creation of Adam and Eve, the first human beings. The verse describes the creation of humanity by Allah and states that humans were created from a single soul and then given a mate, the “three veils of darkness” to the biological process of pregnancy and human development, the anterior abdominal wall, the uterine wall, and the amniotic membrane.

Quran 75:37
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

Sperm are important in sexual reproduction because they fertilize the egg produced by the female, resulting in the creation of a new individual. In humans and many other animals, sperm are produced in the testicles and travel through the vas deferens to the urethra, from where they are expelled during ejaculation. Sperm are tiny cells with a long, slender tail that allows them to swim to the egg for fertilization. The combination of sperm and egg is a crucial step in the creation of a new individual, as it determines the genetic makeup of the resulting offspring.

Quran 75:38-40
Then he was a clinging clot, and [ Allah ] created [his form] and proportioned [him] And made of him two mates, the male and the female. Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?

Quran 22:5

O People, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed – that We may show you. And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind.

• The verses you quoted, Surah Al-Muminun, verses 13-14, contain a similar description of the stages of human development as the verse in Surah Al-Hajj, verse 5, which you mentioned previously. Quran 20:55
From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.

The use of “clay” underscores the connection of human beings to the earth and their origin from it. Both terms describe the material from which humans were created. Although not created directly from the earth like Adam, all human beings are still believed to have originated from the earth through their connection to him.

Quran 25:54

And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].

• This is an interpretation of Quran 25:54 that seeks to highlight its message of Tauhid, or the oneness of Allah, and the importance of acknowledging and accepting differences. Quran 95:4-5
We have certainly created man in the best of stature, Then We return him to the lowest of the low.

• The meaning of Quran 95:4-5 is that God has created human beings in the best and most perfect form, with a noble and elevated stature. However, despite this, human beings will eventually return to a state of humility and lowliness, which is described as the “lowest of the low.” This can be interpreted in several ways, such as a reminder of the transitory nature of human existence, the importance of humility in the face of divine power, or the ultimate return of all souls to God. Quran 42:49-50
To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males – Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.

How can you deny God, when you were dead and He gave you life, then He will put you to death, then He will bring you to life, then to Him you will be returned? It is He who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the heaven, and made them seven heavens. And He is aware of all things.

Say, [O Muhammad], “I do not ask you for the Qur’an any payment, and I am not of the pretentious – It is but a reminder to the worlds – And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time.

Quran 42:51
And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise.

Quran 31:20

Do you not see that Allah has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].

Mankind was [of] one religion [before their deviation]; then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over the Scripture except those who were given it – after the clear proofs came to them – out of jealous animosity among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning that over which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.

Quran 16:36
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], “Worship Allah and avoid Taghut.” And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

Quran 3:19

Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them – out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah , then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.

This is a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord – to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy –

Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah , of all things, Knowing.

Quran 7:158

The Reality of Original Sin in Islam

Quran 2:37
Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

Quran 35:18
And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And if a heavily laden soul calls [another] to [carry some of] its load, nothing of it will be carried, even if he should be a close relative. You can only warn those who fear their Lord unseen and have established prayer. And whoever purifies himself only purifies himself for [the benefit of] his soul. And to Allah is the [final] destination.

Quran 27:38
Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained.

Quran 3:85
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

The Reality of Original Sin in Christianity 

GOD created the first man Adam and his wife Eve from his (Adam’s) rib. GOD commanded, you both to drink and eat in heaven, but not to eat that tree fruits. If you eat the fruits of that tree, you people will become angels and you people will become immortals – Satan tells deceitful words to Eve. Eve then causes Adam to eat the fruits of that tree. Adam sinned by eating the fruits of that tree in disobedience to GOD’s command; This is called “Original Sin”. This original sin of Adam is transmitted to all his descendants. Thus all human beings are sinners by birth – that is one of the believe of Christians. And Christians say – whoever believes that Jesus died for the sins of all human beings, all their sins will be forgiven !

Matthew 23:35
And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

• According to Christian belief in original sin, all humans are considered sinners by birth. However, this contradicts the Bible which states that Abel was righteous, being one of Adam’s sons. If original sin were true, how could Abel be righteous? This shows that the concept of original sin is a fabrication.

Ezekiel 18:4
For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.

• The verse in Ezekiel 18:4 states that the one who sins will die, while the Christian belief is that Jesus died for the sins of humanity. This seem like a contradiction, but many Christians still believe that Jesus’s death on the cross for their sin.

Ezekiel 18:20
The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

• According to the verses in Ezekiel 18:4 and 20, “the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son.” This contradicts the concept of original sin, which states that sin is transmitted from parent to child. This shows that the idea of original sin is a fabrication.

Matthew 18:1-3
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them, And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

According to the verse in Matthew 19:14, Jesus says that “heaven belongs to little children.” However, according to the Christian belief of original sin, all people, including children, are considered sinners from birth.
