Ravi Kumar and Mohit Joshi, the CEO of Cognizant and the new CEO of Tech Mahindra, respectively, are considered to be the future leaders of Infosys.

It’s been a month of big moves in the IT industry, with the first announcement being the resignation of Infosys President Mohit Joshi to take over as CEO of Tech Mahindra later this year. Joshi resigned more than four months after Ravi Kumar S, the company’s former chairman left the company. Kumar took over as CEO of Cognizant in January. Both Joshi and Kumar are potential contenders for the future CEO of Infosys, but Salil Parekh, the current CEO, renewed his contract for five years in July 2022

A note from Kotak Institutional Equities said the role played by the two is multifaceted, but Infosys has a strong leadership role to fill. The portfolios of executives who left Infosys to join competitors in the past were well managed by their successors, he said.
Those opportunities [for Joshi and Kumar] offered great jobs in reputable companies with good CEO pay policies.

The company recognizes the leadership skills in Infosys well and has contributed to many leaders in the IT services industry,” the document adds. Cognizant is also known as a CEO company, as it has produced many executives who are now leading other companies such as Debashis Chatterjee, CEO of LTI Mindtree, Vipul Khanna of Firstsource, and others.

Kumar and Joshi are the latest in a line of former Infosys talent who have gone on to run the business. Anshuman Das, CEO of executive search and talent consultancy firm Longhouse Consulting, told Moneycontrol that Infosys is one of the leading companies in this regard.

“They have produced a good number of CEOs because they are very efficient and effective companies. This type of system produces good leaders, who can give leadership and numbers,” he said.

However, he added that this does not provide many business opportunities in such markets, which he says is a characteristic of the turbulent environment. “Any company like Infosys is a great company for executives, and Infosys is leading the way when it comes to IT advancement. Between Infosys and Cognizant, many executives are leaving. Wipro has been good at creating entrepreneurial talent,” he said.
He added that each of the Big Five IT services companies is unique. “As a country, we are fortunate to have a combination of these companies, who are entrepreneurs, who are producing great leaders who are taking the entire industry to the next level. That’s how I see the environment. – and everyone has their big advantage,” he said.
