Air India’s new offer will be available to permanent general employees who are 40 years of age or above and have completed a minimum of five years of continuous service with the airline.

Air India on Friday offered Voluntary Retirement to its non-flight staff, the second such offer from the Tata Group after it took over the loss-making airline in January last year. The new provision will be given to permanent general workers who are 40 years of age or older and have completed a minimum of five years of continuous service in the airline industry, according to the communication.

In addition, clerical and undergraduate departments who have completed at least five years of continuous service will be eligible. This giveaway will be open until April 30.
Sources said a total of 2,100 workers will be eligible to take advantage of the latest voluntary retirement. Currently, the airline has approximately 11,000 employees, including flight and non-flight personnel. In June 2022, Air India launched the first phase of voluntary retirement plan.

There have been requests from employers to extend voluntary retirement benefits to other permanent employees. In response to this, Air India is announcing the second phase of the voluntary retirement offer, the airline’s head of human resources, Suresh Dutt Tripathi, said in a communication sent to employees on Friday.

“Employees applying for voluntary retirement from March 17, 2023 to April 30, 2023 will receive the initial amount as a one-time benefit. Eligible employees applying till March 31, 2023 will get Rs 1 lakh in addition to the ex gratia amount,” the notification reads.

In the first part of the voluntary pension scheme, airmen and non-airmen were covered. At the time, about 4,200 workers were eligible and of those, about 1,500 took the offer, the source said.

In September last year, Air India announced the transformation plan Vihaan.AI which focuses on various goals to be achieved in five years. This strategy aims to put Air India on the path of continuous growth, profitability and market leadership.
