I’m a huge Anime fan. I’m obviously given that my whole blog is strictly for anime. That being said, I’m a bigger fan of anime that is SUPER UNDERRATED. Now what classifies as underrated? For me, that’s anything that is not getting enough hype even though it deserves all of the hype. It could’ve been popular for a moment, but people still sleep on it and don’t realize just how great it actually is even when it’s been out for YEARS. Let’s jump into it!
Megalobox
This anime is mad underrated. With such a great underdog Story, I don’t know why it’s not talked about more. The pacing, the action, the suspense, it’s all really dope. The animation and art has a nostalgic feel, but still feels fairly unique. It has two seasons and is packed with great moments. If you enjoy sports anime and a come up story, I would check it out.
Ranking of Kings
People still sleeping on this anime and I honestly don’t know why. Our MC is a young boy who wants to be king, but is looked down upon by everyone around him until he comes across a thief who ends up changing his entire life. The art style is very different. This approach to the hero’s journey is special, and the amount of times I found myself rooting for the MC really showed me how invested I truly was. The unique element to the story is this character can't use his words, however he is able to communicate through sign language and lip reading. Highly suggest giving it a watch.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Of course we gotta give you a throwback for this list. Yu Yu Hakusho is still a classic. Yes it’s an old anime, but don’t sleep on it. This one opened a lot of doors for anime like Bleach, Naruto, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and more. The characters are awesome, witty at times, and memorable. When the story progresses things really start to heat up and make for some super tense moments. Yusuke is definitely a pain in the ass, but he's hilarious too. It evens itself out at times.
Violet Evergarden
This one will put you in all the feels. Be prepared for the heavy scenes because it will make you an emotional mess. I was sleeping on this one for a while and I'm so glad I finally woke up and gave it a shot. Violet Evergarden is beautiful has such a great premise. The story is interesting and you will find yourself connecting with the main character a lot. A bonus is the action you get which I found unexpected but definitely rewarding. There is so much amazing cinematography that adds a lot of value to the series as a whole.
Cowboy Bebop
Major throwback, but this one is a classic and still holds up to this day. Cowboy Bebop is a spectacular series that provides comedy, action, heartfelt moments, great storytelling, and dark themes. Yes the art is a little dated compared to what’s being produced today, but the animation is still really good. Trust me, it’s worth a watch. Unlike the live action version, this is a series that will continue to have replay value for many more years.
