Meta Threads: The Twitter Killer?

After months of rumors and leaks, Mark Zuckerberg shocked Elon Musk with the launch of Meta's highly anticipated Social Networking App, Threads. Described by social media experts as the "Twitter killer", Threads is similar to Twitter.

Zuckerberg shared that the app logged 5 million sign-ups in the first four hours, posing a major threat to Twitter. As part of the Meta and Instagram family of apps, Instagram already has two billion users, compared to Twitter's 250 million. If even one in ten Instagram users try out Threads, it will overtake Twitter in no time.

Similar to Twitter, threads allow users to post short text posts that can be liked, reposted, and replied to. However, it does not include direct messaging capabilities. Each thread post can be up to 500 characters long and can include links, photos and videos of up to five minutes.

Instagram users who sign up for Threads automatically get a badge effect on their Instagram profile, but they have the option to hide it. Additionally, they can choose individual privacy settings for each app.

In response to a user who predicted the end of Twitter, Zuckerberg said, "We're only in the early stages of the first phase here. The look and feel is similar to Instagram, but it has almost all the features that Twitter has." "

Initial responses from users have been positive, but it is important to note that while Threads is available in the UK, it is not yet available in the EU due to regulatory uncertainty surrounding the EU's Digital Markets Act.
