Presidential Election: Tinubu Beats Obi, Atiku In Ekiti; Wins 12 Local Govts

In 12 of the state’s 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs), Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, defeated his two main opponents, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.

A total of 134,503 votes have been cast for Mr. Tinubu thus far from the state’s 12 LGAs. Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was his main challenger, received 61,414 votes, while Mr. Obi of the Labour Party received 5,454 votes.

By 7 a.m. at the State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Tinubu had won in each of the 12 local governments that had results announced as of that time.

Now, the APC is in charge of Ekiti through Governor Biodun Oyebanji. Kayode Fayemi, who served as Mr. Oyebanji’s predecessor, is a prominent APC member and admirer of Mr. Tinubu.

Ex-Gov. Ayo Fayose, a well-liked PDP politician in Ekiti, is thought to have worked for Mr. Tinubu after aligning himself with PDP governors opposed to Atiku.

Mr. Oyebanji had claimed before the election that the state owed Mr. Tinubu money and would make up for it by giving him a landslide of support.
