2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Review:

The the2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer small crossover is the Labrador retriever of the automotive world: everywhere, with family members. The Trailblazer is a smaller, less expensive alternative to the Chevy Blazer that offers a roomy cabin in an easy-to-park package. A 137-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine is standard.

At the same time, a 155-hp three-cylinder engine is optional. The front-wheel drive version comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while the four-wheel drive comes with an ultra-smooth 9-speed automatic transmission.

Unfortunately, both powertrains drive the Trailblazer as much as the stubborn Great Pyrenees. The less powerful front-engine Trailblazer returns approximately 33 mpg. At EPA on the highway, that’s less than the more affordable subcompact SUVs like the Kia Soul and Nissan Kicks.

With five cubic feet more interior space than the just-discontinued Trax, the Trailblazer’s high roof is comfortable for an adult in its seat. And for those with big projects, the front passenger seat can be folded forward to maximize the utility of the Trailblazer’s flat surface.

What’s New For 2023?

Chevy hasn’t made any significant changes to the 2023 Trailblazer but has added new exterior colors such as Nitro Yellow Metallic, Fountain Blue, Sterling Gray Metallic, and the Pearl Tricoat roof color. Much smaller than the mid-sized SUV Trailblazers of the early 2000s, 2023.

Trailblazer is known for its compact size, easy parking, and excellent fuel economy. Slightly more significant than the Chevy Trax and smaller than the flashy Equinox, the Trailblazer is perfect for those looking for a five-passenger crossover.

In its third year as the next-generation Chevrolet Trailblazer, the subcompact crossover SUV offers a spacious cabin and stylish features in an affordable package. No significant changes for 2023. Part of the second Trailblazer generation introduced for 2021.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Engine:

Like the Encore GX, the Trailblazer has two turbocharged three-cylinder engines: 1.2-liter and 1.3-liter. The former produces 137 hp, the latter 155 hp. The 1.2-liter engine comes with front-wheel drive and handling. It is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while the 1.3-liter version has an all-wheel drive option.

The option of all-wheel drive also replaces the standard CVT with a well-integrated nine-speed automatic. Unfortunately, the acceleration of the 1.3-liter all-wheel drive Trailblazer failed to impress during the test. However, it reaches 60 mph in 9.4 seconds at city speeds. Nevertheless, the Trailblazer has received more than favorable reviews.

But integration into the highway or high-speed operation must be planned. Although Trailblazer has no extraordinary power, it can be recommended. But mostly, it is hardened due to road imperfections. For example, we’re not enamored with the brake pedal in the Trailblazer. It’s overly sensitive, making it difficult to be smooth when slowing down.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Fuel Economy:

The Trailblazer with the 1.3-liter engine and all-wheel drive we tested gets an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in combined city/highway driving. This is good for a tiny car. However, we were slightly disappointed, managing just 26.9 mpg on our 115-mile freeway evaluation route.

One advantage of the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine in the Trailblazer is that it does not require premium fuel like other turbocharged engines in its class. According to the EPA, the most efficient Trailblazer is the 1.3-liter three-cylinder front-wheel-drive model, which gets ratings of 29 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

Upgrading to all-wheel drive drops those numbers to 26 and 30, respectively. We tested the all-wheel-drive model, returning 31 mpg over 200 miles. We didn’t drive the smaller 1.2-liter, front-wheel-drive-engine Trailblazer on a highway test cycle, but EPA fuel economy estimates for this model are 29 mpg city and 31 highway.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Interior:

The cabin design is not as good as the exterior, but it is spacious and comfortable. And decorated with lots of goodies on the top edge. The driving position is as high as an SUV, and enough room for two adults to sit comfortably in the backseat. However, the interior is primarily made of black plastic.

But everything has an attractive texture, so it doesn’t look cheap. The top model adds color and chrome trim to give it a more classic look. There’s plenty of cargo space behind the rear seats, and the Chevy doesn’t have a folding back seat. But it also has a front passenger seat that can be folded down to create extra-high storage space.

You can adjust the driving position according to different preferences. And tall riders won’t feel like they’re being held too high. At the same time, the Trailblazer has a relatively short roofline. But in terms of style, there is no compromise with the view, as with the Mazda CX-30. In addition, the high-resolution backup camera works well even in low-light conditions.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Safety:

Chevrolet equips every Trailblazer with advanced technologies such as basic driver assistance technology and adaptive cruise control. Automatic braking defects an impending collision, and apply the brakes if you cannot react. Remote control indicator:

  • Shows the distance to the vehicle in front and warns you if you are paying too much attention.
  • If the car starts off the track and you don’t react. It will warn you if the vehicle is swerving.
  • Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
  • Lane departure warning and lane keeping are standard.
  • There is an adjustable automatic speed control system.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Maintenances:

Chevrolet’s standard warranty is mediocre compared to many Trailblazer competitors. Looking for something with additional security? The Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport offer up to 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. In addition, the Trailblazer’s first scheduled maintenance visit is free. Though competition is not typical, Hyundai does better than Chevy with a three-year free maintenance plan.

  • The limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles.
  • The engine warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles.
  • Complimentary maintenance is covered on the first visit.
