Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s love story began in 2009 on the set of “The Last Song.” Their on-and-off relationship culminated in a wedding in late 2018. This intimate ceremony was held just one month after the couple lost their Malibu home to the devastating Woolsey Fire. The marriage too was kind of a reaction to shared trauma. 

Cyrus revealed that her decision to end the marriage with Hemsworth was made on the same day she performed at the iconic Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England, on June 30, 2019. This was approximately six months after their wedding and just two months before Hemsworth filed for divorce. 

Cyrus reflected in an interview, “The day of the show was the day that I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life, to be in that relationship.” She described her marriage to Hemsworth as an “addiction” and confessed that getting married was “one last attempt to save myself.”

Miley Cyrus has been known for her ability to carry on even in the face of adversity. She once filmed the music video for “On a Roll,” the day after discovering her house had burned down. The video was featured in an episode of Black Mirror. Her dedication to her craft is unquestionable. Amid the media frenzy surrounding their separation, Cyrus denied cheating on Hemsworth and defended her decision to prioritize her own growth and happiness. “I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind,” she had said.  “I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking , foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar,” she added.
